Reiki was my first love when I joined the world of complementary therapies. Suffering from anxiety and stress during my twenties, I met a Reiki Therapist, who introduced me to this powerful treatment. Deeply relaxing and rebalancing, Reiki changed so many areas of my life through my improved wellbeing.
What is Reiki?
Reiki was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900s. Reiki is an energy therapy that is gentle in touch but deeply healing. Reiki means "Life Force Energy". It works by removing blockages held within our energy centres. Also known as our Chakras, each of these energy centres represents a part of us physically, emotionally and spiritually. When we have energy blockages, we can go on to experience anxiety, stress and physical illness in many forms. It is through the Reiki flow of energy that you receive during a treatment, that you are able to rebalance these energy centres and begin your healing journey.
What will happen during a Reiki treatment?
Reiki is non intrusive and very gentle. It is suitable for all ages from newborn to 100! You remain fully clothed and will be covered with a blanket whilst you are lying on the therapy couch. The Reiki therapist will then position their hands on areas of the body. This will involve gentle touch or the hands raised just above the body. I love to work with crystals during my Reiki treatments and these will be gently placed on your chakra points on the body.
Each person has a unique experience with Reiki. But you may feel warmth coming from the therapist's hands, you may experience a tingling sensation, you may fall asleep! ( this is all completely normal). After the treatment, you will be feeling deeply relaxed - like a weight has been lifted! Rebalanced in both body and mind. Reiki can be a very emotional experience. It works on many levels. I can vouch for that based on my own experience and the experiences of my clients over the past 10 years!
